Career Tests

I've always been fascinated by the more scientific methods of coming up with self-employment ideas. I'm talking about using psychometric testing to narrow down the scope and focus on self-employment ideas that work specifically for someone. The 'self-employment ideas block' is often caused by too many choices on self-employment ideas - should I become a wedding planner, set up an online shop, retrain as a nutritionist, take up writing etc... Psychometric personality and ability tests are there to help edit your options down to ideas that suit your personality, so you rule out self-employment ideas that clash with your personality.

Since my scope of possible self-employment ideas are so wide, I decided to take some psychometric tests and see if they brings my closer to my own self-employment idea.

I could have gone to a career counsellor or psychologist to have psychometric tests administered professionally, but I found a useful site with links to free, credible online psychometric tests and took this one, a version of the Myers and Briggs Type Indicator test.

The results show that I'm an ENFP or ENFJ personality type. Through further research, I discover what's written about these 2 personality types are reflective of my personality - prefer to start things than finish them, dislike complications and idealistic. Good self-employment ideas for me include psychologist, entrepreneur, journalist and consultant.

Use the tests as a guideline to generate thinking on your self-employment. The tests have made me rule out self-employment ideas that involve long executions and wrapping up projects. I realise I'm an ideas and advice person, not so much a 'doer'.

Good luck and have fun with the tests, and try implementing the results in your self employment ideas search. Labels: Ideas tips
